Special Session 2

New Sensors and Methods for diagnostic and Monitoring of Power Energy Assets

SESSION SYNOPSIS

For a sustainable energy supply, healthy and safet operation of electrical equipment is mandatory. Nowadays, the growing intensification of severe weather events due to climate change and the increasingly larger exposure to abnormal stresses due to renewable sources (wind and photovoltaic) integration in the transmission and distribution networks threaten the continuous operation of the Assets of Electrical Grid.  In this framework, a capillary assessment and control of all the installed equipment, in a fully automated way, with the integration of new sensors arrays and novel digital devices for self-diagnosis purposes, could reduce the risk of fault and improve the resilience of power energy system.

This Special Session proposes an overview on novel sensing devices and diagnostic approaches for continuous monitoring and control of the Electrical Assets; the focus will be on embedded sensors and system to collect information (big data) on electrical equipment health status and on processing algorithms to improve predictive maintenance strategies as well.
